Obligations and an oops

September 4, 2012 § Leave a comment

I have a three-week-long lull in between classes. I was enjoying my extra free time (no papers to write! no stupid “group” projects to redo!) but now it’s coming to an end, my next class starts in a week. Ugh.

In the meantime I have even more obligations (on top of working full time), including my maid of honor duties. My sister’s wedding is coming up in a bit over six weeks, which means I have to knit a shrug in, yes, five weeks. It’s just a bit over 900 yards, in Kidsilk Haze.

The wedding colors are coral and gold, so while I was originally planning on knitting Gossamer in white or cream Kidsilk Haze, my sister is worried that it might clash with her ivory dress. So, when we went to Loop in Philadelphia she liked the pale gold Ember colorway and I was like, ok, bride gets what bride wants. Ember is bit less versatile but she claims she’ll wear it if I don’t want it.

Anyway, I’d been planning on knitting Gossamer for a while, but suddenly now that there’s a looming deadline I’m so not as into it any more. I think I need to, after this shrug is done, focus more on what I want to knit when I want to knit it…after I finish my aunt’s sweater and after I submit a few designs to an e-book charity project. Ok so my plans are a bit more ambitious than reality. Again.

While at Loop, I got a sweater’s worth of Kidsilk Haze Trio. The so-called logic here was “IT’S SO FLUFFY I COULD JUST DIE” combined with “OOH CUTE SWEATER” (Curio). In my defense I’d been working 13 hour days for four days straight hauling around heavy equipment so that kind of wore down my willpower a lot by the time I stepped into a yarn store. I really should’ve seen it coming.
